Honoring Our Heroes on Remembrance Day

"To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die." — Thomas Campbell

On November 11, the Kincardine Scottish Festival & Highland Games paused to honor the sacrifices of our soldiers during the Remembrance Day ceremony. As proud members of this vibrant community, we came together to pay tribute to those who have served and continue to serve our nation with courage and dedication.

Despite the wet, windy weather, hundreds of people turned out for the annual Remembrance Day ceremony held at the Kincardine Legion Cenotaph. Inside, the Legion hall was mostly full for the Remembrance Day service at 10 a.m., led by Rev. Judy Zarubick, with Liz Dadson as pianist. Legion past-president Robert Fletcher and president Jim McDonald read the Scripture, and everyone joined in singing the hymns.

Rev. Zarubick reminded us, “Those who died, who served, they made the world a safer place to live. They died for Canada. Our future is their monument. We enjoy freedom because those soldiers fought for it, and continue to fight for it. Without freedom, there is no enduring peace, and without peace, there is no enduring freedom.”

This poignant day reminded us of the bravery and sacrifices made by so many, including those from our own Kincardine community. We encourage you to take a moment to explore the stories of our local heroes who answered the call of duty. You can find a list of these remarkable individuals at Bruce Remembers.

Let us continue to honor their memories and reflect on the enduring legacy of peace and freedom they have gifted us. Together, we remember, reflect, and show our gratitude.
